Thread veins are thin reddish/purple veins, just under the surface of the skin, which can spoil the appearance of your legs. They are not usually painful but people who have them may feel disinclined to expose their legs by wearing short skirts or swimsuits. The cause of these unattractive veins is not known but there is often a family history.
Thread veins can be successfully treated with Sclerotherapy. A course of 3-5 treatments is usually required. If varicose veins are also present referral can be arranged to a vascular surgeon.
